International Games Day @ Your Library brings community together to read, learn and play

Kewanna Public Library will join over a thousand libraries around the world on Saturday, November 19, 2016, for the ninth annual celebration of gaming in libraries – International Games Day @ Your Library. Like so many other libraries across the country and around the world, Kewanna Public Library will offer special gaming programs all day suitable for the whole family.

International Games Day @ your library is an international initiative supported by the American Library Association, the Australian Library and Information Association, and Nordic Game Day. Kewanna Public Library will be hosting an “Honoring Our Vets” Reception on Thursday, November 10 at 6:00.  All veterans, family members of veterans, those currently serving in the military, and anyone else that would like to honor our heroes are invited to attend.  A light meal will be served.  Kewanna Public Library is located at 210 E. Kewanna-Union Township Public Library celebrates Teen Read Week™ with the theme Read for the Fun of it!

Kewanna-Union Township Public Library will celebrate Teen Read Week (October 9-15, 2016) with special events and programs aimed at encouraging teens around the area to Read for the Fun of it. Thousands of libraries, schools and bookstores across the country will hold similar events centered on this year’s theme.

Teen Read Week is a time to celebrate reading for fun while encouraging teens to take advantage of reading in all its forms —books, magazines, e-books, audiobooks and more! It is also a great opportunity to encourage teens to become regular library users.

In recent years, many families have had to adapt to make do with less as a result of the economy. Teen Read Week is a great opportunity for teens and their families to learn about all the free services and resources the library offers.  The library also offers a safe and supervised space for adolescents to engage in creative, educational activities with caring adults and mentors.

Kewanna-Union Township Public Library invites teens to participate in special programs and events during Teen Read Week. These special events include a Reading Contest, Trivia Contest, and making a bookmark using the theme “Read for the Fun of it!”  A special TNT (Teens in Town) meeting will be held on Tues., Oct. 11 @ 4:30 during Teen Read Week also.
