Bats are Important!

Kewanna Union Township Public Library will be hosting a special event to increase the public’s awareness of the importance of bats in our environment.  Bats are Important! will take place on Thurs., April 11 @ 5:30 pm.  Kewanna Union Township Public Library is located at 210 E. Main St. Kewanna, IN.  This program was also presented on Oct. 18 & 19, 2023 and will contain the same content.

Tony Carroll, DNR Wildlife Biologist, will be sharing information about ways that bats help in pest control and pollination of plants.  Some types of bats are rapidly becoming endangered and need our help!  Tony will explain ways to conserve our natural resources that will help to increase the number of bats.

All of those that attend will be able to make and take home their own bat house after Tony Carroll’s presentation.  A limited number of bat house kits are available.  Everyone is welcome to attend this free event.

This program was made possible at the Kewanna Union Township Public Library through a grant received from Arrow Head Country RC & D.   Fulton County Soil & Water Conservation District is partnering with the library for these special events.

National Library Week is April 7-13

Ready, Set, Library!

National Library Week, from April 7-13, allows us to promote our local libraries and their workers. From Harry Potter and Matilda, to Lord of the Rings and Game of Thrones, we’re sure at some point you’ve dashed to the library to borrow your favorite book. Then comes studying. Haven’t we all spent endless hours in the library revising for our exams, borrowing textbooks, writing in journals and using their online resources? Do you remember that feeling of getting a brand-new library card – of whipping it out when you borrowed a mountain of DVD’s? Of course, times have changed since the millennium, but aren’t the staff always so professional and kind? Libraries are pivotal to society to both universities and to schools. Celebrating them, means celebrating silent reading, our communities and getting into college. Therefore, it’s an obvious good deed. This National Library Week, let’s look back on our love for the smell inside an old book, and wholeheartedly thank our local public libraries.
